- Drop your expectations. Don’t come thinking you want that one image you saw on Pinterest. That is not your moment… we will make our own. Each family is unique.
- Do not put stress on the kids. Instead of dictating them to behave well and stressing, on the ride over tell them how you are going to have fun at the park while a photographer takes their picture. How much grandma is going to love these!
- Give them some time to warm up. I’m not in a rush- so neither should anyone else. Sometimes I spend a few minutes talking to your tot, even let them take a picture… this ‘helping’ helps them feel comfortable.
- Play with them. Sing to them. Dance. Pretend you are all at home doing your playtime with them. Those dancing in the kitchen moments. I am just a fly on the wall. Not sure what to do? I will help direct.
- Whisper encouragement and praise to them, not warnings. Wow, you really look cute in that dress. Your smile is the best. I love how you hug me. It’s so fun to see you dance. Build them up!
- Give breaks. I’ll pull just one child aside, or the parents for a few moments. Everyone needs a break.
- Small rewards. Stickers, mini marshmallows are in my pack. Do not give a whole bag of snacks that takes awhile to eat. One at a time.
- Trust your photographer. I have photographed tons of babies, toddlers and young kids! I am a mom of three myself. Experience matters.
Young families are a joy to photograph. I truly believe that it is a gift capturing these moments for you. I know that they will be treasured forever and I want you to have the very best!
